Westbound soda ash train with four distributed power units cut back into train moves out of Nampa Yard. Distributed power is put on at Nampa to make the steep grades in the Blue Mts of Oregon. In addition to UP 5887 other AC44CWCTEs (UP 5844, UP 5851 and UP 5867) are the preferred power for heavy soda ash trains. As in this train SD90 (43/60)Macs are sometimes used instead of AC44CWCTEs. Distributed power is added/ removed at Hinkle, Oregon the west side of the Blue Mts. |
